When Used Together

AvoidGlycolic Acid + Retinol

Retinol and AHA (glycolic acid) together cause excessive irritation and peeling.

Use on alternate nights. Retinol PM one night, AHA the next.

CautionRetinol + Salicylic Acid

Retinol and BHA (salicylic acid) may cause dryness and irritation when layered.

Use salicylic acid in the morning and retinol in the evening.

CautionGlycolic Acid + Salicylic Acid

Using AHA and BHA together at high concentrations risks over-exfoliation and barrier damage.

Alternate use — AHA one day, BHA the next.

CautionLactic Acid + Retinol

[Class rule] Retinoids and AHAs both accelerate cell turnover. Combined use increases irritation risk.

Use on alternate nights.

CautionLactic Acid + Salicylic Acid

[Class rule] Combining AHA and BHA increases exfoliation beyond what most skin can tolerate.

Use on alternate days or choose one.

SynergyNiacinamide + Salicylic Acid

Niacinamide reduces post-BHA redness while salicylic acid unclogs pores — excellent acne-fighting duo.

SynergyNiacinamide + Retinol

Niacinamide buffers retinol irritation while enhancing barrier function — ideal layering combination.
